Erwin Olaf is one of the greatest Dutch photographers known for his mastery of light and overflowing imagination. His is photography as Art, or very close indeed.  It is really not surprising that this year Olaf was awarded the Vermeer prize, the highest  award of distinction to artists in the Netherlands.

Olaf’s claim to fame came with the series “Chessmen” in 1987 displaying Goya-esque imagination and another series “Squares” of  highly aesthetic erotic images. Provocative. Perfectly mis-en-scene.

We learn that it is not the woman-princess that inspires him. It is the woman-survivor. Drop her in the middle of nowhere and she will make it through. The Hague fashion city?

It certainly has the ambition to become one.

For the month of November for sure.

On the 4th of November the city welcomes the third edition of the Residence de la Mode and the Dutch Fashion Awards.

Residence de la Mode is a programme of public events to bring fashion closer to people with scores of shows, exhibitions, pop up stores shining the spotlight on emerging talent as well as established designers. It is very much in line with the official City policy aimed at positioning The Hague as a creative city. Under this grabbing title the hip Russian online magazine Look at me  published an extensive interview with the Dutch trend forecaster Li Edelkort who was in Moscow for the local Design Week  and  the launch of her exhibition curated for the occasion called Organic Dwelling where she explores how designers and architects of today  fuse the organic and the modern in their work.

Named The Hague fashion ambassador 2010 he has had an impressive rise through the fashion ranks in the Netherlands scoring participation in the Millionaires Fair, museum exhibitions, celebrity dressing, TV appearances.
